Porch Restoration

Custom balustrade with Sapele Hand/Foot rails and balusters with sloped footrail and birds-mouth balusters; ploughed hand and foot rail with composite structural columns.

This project involved the complete restoration of a deteriorated back porch structure. Key tasks included replacement and reinforcement of load-bearing supports and replacing decking boards with pressure-treated lumber; as well as fabricating custom balustrades with sapele hand and footrails and cedar balusters. The project also included adding a clapboard skirt. The restoration enhances both the curb appeal and structural longevity, ensuring safety and aesthetic consistency with the home's historic style.

The remodel transformed an outdated enclosed front porch into a comfortable, four-season living area; removing a bank of windows to provide a pass-through, which required a custom steel support beam. Front entrance included custom built side lights featuring stained glass installed into a double pane glass pack. Historic architectural details were accommodated and custom historic matched casing and baseboards. The project included insulating the floor, ceiling and walls, replacing outdated windows with energy-efficient double-pane units and installing radiant heat flooring. This upgrade boosts home value and extends usable living space.
